ABOUT OUR WORK
Finding a better path for children and nature
We are a professional association that advances high‑quality nature‑based education by helping programs, educators, and communities access the benefits of outdoor, nature-based learning and play.
We have served teachers in all 50 states and in 26 different countries, helping to nourish this growing movement. Our work strengthens the field through training, resources, and partnerships that help children learn and thrive outdoors.

WHO WE SERVE
When teachers get it, so do kids.
We offer professional development for teachers, environmental educators, naturalists, administrators and others working in nature-based education. We know that when we provide inspiration, expertise, and support to the adults in a child's life, we can ultimately ensure that all children benefit from nature-based education.
We support programs such as nature preschools, forest kindergartens, nature-based in-home childcare centers, elementary schools and the like. Our reach is inclusive of ALL learning settings.
In 2016, we set out to grow networks in the Eastern region of the U.S. But within weeks, we had a national presence. With every training and event, we nurture new networks of teachers who support and cheer one another on. Everyone is welcome to attend our programs no matter where you live!
ANBE is guided by a group of dedicated nature-based educators and advocates. Learn more about our founding members and Board of Directors here.
WHAT'S ON THE HORIZON
ANBE'S FUTURE
The Association for Nature-Based Education (ANBE) is envisioning a future home in Northern Baltimore County, Maryland. It will be a protected, accessible landscape where educators, children, families, and the natural world grow together.
Our future center is being thoughtfully imagined as a place where teacher learning, community connection, and ecological stewardship come together on conserved land. While this space does not yet exist, the vision is rooted in years of practice, partnership, and deep listening to educators, families, children, and the land.
A FUTURE HOME FOR EDUCATORS
Educators are at the heart of our vision.
ANBE plans to create a professional learning hub where teachers, caregivers, and school leaders can deepen their practice through hands-on training, reflection, and shared inquiry. A lab forest school is envisioned as part of the campus, offering educators the opportunity to learn alongside children in real, living learning environments.
This future site will support learning about:
- Nature-based education and outdoor teaching practices
- Place-based learning, environmental literacy, and stewardship
- Care and relationship in nature-based learning and play
